Long Island’s very own Dr. Acula play some serious “party grind” as they call it. I call it amped up deathcore because they take it to 11. By that, I mean everything. Stage show, energy, crowd interaction, riffs, drumming, samples, inside jokes. It’s all to 11. This makes a band of seven guys both fun and very difficult to photograph live. The sheer number of band members isn’t a problem, it’s that they never stop moving for the whole set and are so unpredictable, but that made it so much fun. Both vocalists are extremely nice guys while the keyboard player/sampler never takes anything too seriously, and the guitarists just melt faces. Dr. Acula has been touring the nation nearly non-stop for the last three years and after the Rage Tour, they had already announced another tour with Molotov Solution that’s coming to Ground Control in July. I also suspect they’ll be here again after July before the year ends since they just released a new album two months ago in April 2010.
