Kill The Messengers at The Pit on 2010-10-22
Making their live debut at the Slave To The Metal show was local metal powerhouse Kill The Messengers. As a band nearly a year in the planning without any live performances, I have to say that I was quite impressed with the entire line-up. Both guitarists are extremely talented, as is the bassist who also sings backing vocals in an almost soothing tone which is a good contrast to Brandon’s erratic and punchy vocals. However, for me, the best part were the drums played by Guillen. He seriously has the biggest kit I’ve seen for a local band that’s never played a live show. I loved his quad tom set-up to compliment the blistering double kick drums, something I haven’t seen in a while as more people are playing with triggered kicks these days. But aside from the members themselves, I was very impressed with their first live show. Aside from George having some sound issues with his bass cabinet, it went off without a hitch and was extremely fun. All the time they spent practicing and practicing really shows as I couldn’t really detect any problems in the songs although I did overhear Guillen say he missed some drum hits, could have fooled me! Their second live show is a Halloween show at Tobacco Road and I expect it to be even better.
