Palm Beach Rollergirls Practice at Skatezone on 2010-06-06
I’ve always had a thing for roller derby and it’s more than likely due to the fact that it’s pretty ladies beating each other up. So when I had the chance to photograph the Palm Beach Rollergirls new girl recruitment/practice session in Lake Worth, I jumped at the opportunity. Getting some quality shots turned out to be more difficult than I expected because everywhere I turned, about the only thing I saw was someone’s butt, either because they fell on their face or they fell in a two- or four-point stance. And I didn’t want 300 shots of a bunch of butts, as nice as they may be. Fortunately, the practice session ended around 11:30AM and they began a practice derby match for the new girls to see what a real match will end up looking like and this is where everything to to be fun. I situated myself on an outer corner close to the starting position which gave me about 150 degrees worth of coverage from a straightaway, a corner, and a reverse view of the starting spots. Frankly, this was great as it was where all the action went down anyway as almost no one made any passes, punches, or falls in the first turn of the track.
The PBRG are gearing up for the beginning of their season and hopefully, they’ll get us back on the track to start shooting.

Looks like that pivot knocked that jammer out for real!
